Default 67 mustang question

How hard and the modifications would it take to install a 429ci 1971 Big block into
a 1967 mustang coupe, I was just wondering if it's possible and how much work & modifications would it take for a such a project.

What are you installing?? Man, at 4289ci you're talking like shipboard diesel generator motors. Talk about front end mods!

If you're interested in a 429 I would suggest one of these

kallador,

Sorry dude...I was just funnin' you.

The '67 can handle the 429. As far as modifications are concerned, the driving factor is going to be determined by the original/current engine configuration. Going from a 200 6cyl, the 429 is going to add a metric ton of weight (well, not that much) comparitively speaking, over that front end. It will not handle the load. Secondly, consider the torque to the driveline and rear suspension.

Other imperatives:
[ul][*]Motor mounts[*]Transmission/Bell-housing/stall converter-flywheel[*]Exhaust (clearance)
[/ul]

The '67 was built to handle the FE blocks (390, 427, 428 specifically). The 429/460 deck is 2" longer and an inch taller (if my memory serves me correctly). It would be a tight fit with the shocktowers. Go to an IFS, remove the shocktowers and you'll have no problem.

Here are the Ford V8 Dimensions and weights.

Here's a handy-dandy little spec sheet on all modern Ford engines.

lol I thought it was funny too, after the notice that I accidently posted 4289 instead of 429.
Anyways thank you for the information, and possibly proceed with the 429 monster under the hood.

I think that the 429 is going to be too wide to fit between the shock towers, you may have to notch them. I'd say motor mounts might be hard to find also.

Why don't you just build a 351 based 427 stroker? That will run with any big block from back in the day with today's technology if you get the right combo. You won't have that boat anchor in the front and the car will drive and handle better. Plus it will be faster without all that weight. It will be easier to work on because it won't be so crammed in there.
