Default 69 fastback, intake and carb question

hello, i have a 69 fastback mustang with a stock 302 with a c-4 transmission. i want to go to a something like a 650 holley and a eldebrock or wieland intake. what would be a good 4 barrel carb, intake combination to give my car a little more pep!

Some guys like the Motorcraft 4100, its a good carb for the small engines. Whatever carb you get, do yourself a favor and dont get mechnical secondaries, ie double pumper carbs. A 650 with vac secondaries is plenty big, and most 302s with mild heads and cams, running under 6500 rpm will like something between 450 and 550 cfm. With the small 302, and the stock heads you dont need alot of carb. I would go with the 4100 on your car too.. One ran really well on my 4V Cleveland with headers and a 280 cam. If you really like Holleys, get a small one.

If you don't plan on upgrading your engine, a 500cfm vac secondary carb would work great on top of the Performer manifold (you'll never fully use a Weiand Stealth on a stock 302...not enough revs).

If you plan to get a little better cam and valvetrain (stock 302 valvetrain[:'(] sucks with bigger cams), go with a larger carb (600 or 650 depending on the rpm you plan to run).

I wouldn't shy away from a double pumper. In my experience, they are easier to set up and you absolutely know if the secondaries are working. The stock metering blocks may be rich for a stocker, but they can be easily replaced...which is why I like Holleys.

well about this motor? i bought this car last sunday. so i really dont know alot about the motor just yet. i was told it was a fresh rebuilt. but looking at the gaskets, paint ect. it doesnt look like it. it looks stock being all ford blue. with what i asume is the fact 2 barrel motorcraft sitting on the ford intake. but the car has more power than any old mustang with a 302 ive ever had. im thinking it might has a mild cam. it kind of loaps a little. its got bfgoodrich 50s on the back with traction bars and will break them loose pretty easy. but why would the beef a motor up and not change the factory carb on it? then again it might be a 351 w. if i could figure it out id post a picture it really a slick old car. another thing it seems to be real low geared. the rearend is wound smooth out at 85 mph. i need to check these thing out but i usually work 6 or 7 twelves and just dont have much time.

On a small block carb, i prefer the Edelbrock Air-gap with a 650CFM Holley (your eventually going to do more mods so might as well get the bigger carb now)

Yeah, you first have to figure out what you already have before you go adding more stuff. Figure out if it is a 302 or 351W, figure out if it has a different cam from original, and figure out what gears you are running in the rear. The Motorcraft 4100 is a bullet proof carb, but expensive. See if you can obtain the name of the builder then talk to them about what they put into the car.

the person i bought the car from has allready feed me a line of bull@@@@ and probably doesnt know about the motor anyway! i believe ill just see if its a 302,351w and see what the rearend is and go from there. it runs great and doesnt leak any fluids. but the few time ive gotten into it it breaks the 50s loose then falls on its face. i believe itjust starving for fuel. ill try to post a pic ot two when i figure it out.
