Default Water pump Q

So, I'm trying to figure out if my water pump is bad. How exactly do I tell this? I do know that my car still heats up terribly, but I want to make sure it's not the thermostat or something on the fritz. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

What makes most pumps go bad is the seals fail then antifreeze runs out the weep hole on the snout of the pump. If you open your rad and see the water circulating through it the pump is proably ok. If no water is circulating i would check the thermostat first. Take it out and put it in a pan of water heat the water and see if it opens.

I went to NAPA and they had several differant pumps available. Which am I looking for exactly? They all fit, but they nor I knows the differance. I'm assuming Gallon per minute, but I don't know for a fact. Thanks
