well im pretty sure 300 isnt going to break any 8 inch that hasnt been really badly abused....i think i remember hearing they can take up to 450??? i dono.....

i have an 8" in my 68 coupe and im going to eventually put some kind of posi in there and aim for a little above 300 hp. so essentually....it prob dosent need to be any stronger....i think u could just go for the posi thing and ur set.

I just put a trac-loc diff in my 8 inch unit... I think the gears are 2.85, guessing from a tooth count... I've beat the socks off it, and it holds up just fine. It chattered until I put in the magic bottle of Ford OEM "Friction Modifier" and now it's quiet as a mouse. Definitely leaves TWO black patches on the asphalt pavement when the urge overcomes my right foot... This seems to happen whenever I'm at a light next to a "fast and furious" car with a noisy muffler and loud stereo.. Not sure why though... Anyway, just go with the ford stock trac-loc, and you won't be disappointed. The swap is a snap, as long as you have access to a press. Don't try without one or you'll ruin the bearings/races. The trac-loc will require inner bearings with larger ID, but same OD. I believe the same bearings are used in the 9 inch. Anyway, setup is a snap. Don't be scared.
