1971 Mach 1 Fuel Pump
Just bought a 1971 429 Mach 1 and the fuel pump failed. I cannot find a replacement and need a rebuild kit. The pump has the normal line from the tank and the line to the carb but it also has a small return? line that goes back to the fuel tank. Not sure what that is for unless its to return overpressue back to the tank but no part store can get a direct replacement. Any help out there and does anyone know just what the other line is for?
Thanks in advance

Yes on the electric but did install a replacement pump but without the return, no one can find a reman pump with one. The care is all original including the spare and would like to keep it that way that is why am looking for a pump or rebuild kit.

I hate to rain on your parade, but you said the car is a 71 429 mach one, and you also said the car is all original. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I did not think the 71 mach 1 came with a 429. In fact I thought the only model with a 429 from the factory were the 69 and 70 Boss 429s. This being the case the car is not all original now so adding the electric feul pump would not adversly affect the originality any more than it has already been.
Thanks for setting me straight. I thought the 429 wasn't offered after 70 in the stangs. I would still decode the VIN to make sure it is the original engine. I looked a Mach 1 before I bought my Grande that had a badly transplanted 429.
