Default intake manifold question

ok, i bought an edelbrock torker intake manifold for $10 in a junk yard. its in pretty good shape. but my question is can i run it? i have a almost stock 289. the only thing thats on it that isnt stock is that it has long tube headers. Can i even run the torker manifold? or would i be better off selling it on ebay and buying a performer rpm? any imput is appreciated. thanx

for $10, I would use it IF you have a 2V...the Edelbrock Performer is about the same as a stock 4V, the Performer RPM is a good intake, but the Weiland Stelth is better

You can run it but I wouldn't. Contrary to what it's name implies, it's made for high RPM usage. You'll loose bottom end torque and more importantly, throttle response. Also, if you have to use it, put the smallest 4bbl you can find on it. The reason being that it's a single plane manifold and it will deliver all of the CFM's of the carb to each cylinder, as opposed to a dual plane manifold that only delivers half of the carburetor CFM to each cylinder. I put a Torker with a 600 Holley on a 290 AMC many years ago and even though it had a healthy cam and headers, it killed the the performance. IMHO, I'd sell it and wait until you can find a Performer, Performer RPM or a similar dual plane, or even a stock cast iron 4bbl intake.

Is it a torker or torker II. The torker is a great manifold for a mild car. It twist the carb around a little to direct the air more to the cylinders. A torker II just sucks. If it is a torker and you don't want to use it I will give you $30 for it plus shipping.

Yeah, it's for HIGH RPM usage, and your stock 289 doesn't rev past 4500 really.
