soaring, I think this is a problem faced by all people who actually drive their classics. One thing we have found is called calyx manifold dressing. Those rusty stock manifolds can really stand out and cause the engine bay to look real dirty. So I took a picture of the little container it comes in and also I took some pics of the 1 side I have used it on and also the other side that has not been cleaned with it yet. And its pretty easy to do. I just used a tootbrush to apply and rub it in. Only prob you might face is getting your hand to some of the spots, expecially on the drivers side.

I think that would work. If you strip off the old paint and then use it on there I believe it should come out looking nice and clean like I know the exhaust manifolds will. Only thing is that I don't think you would ever get paint to stick to it again if you were to decide you did not like how it looked. I did some looking in my mustang receipt folder and found where I bought the Calyx dressing. I paid 20 for it and I got it from Eastwood. That seems a little pricey but when you consider how far that little container will go it really isn't.
Obviously you didn't have the original air in the tires. I think theres a guy out in Utah who sells cans of air for your ride. He has it for years staring at 1929. Make sure you tell him your make before you order. And if you want to fill the spare with original air you'll need to order five cans.
