Default AutoMeter Tach Issues

I picked up a used 5" tach that was previously installed on a 4cyl Honda, I am now installing it in a V8. The orange/brown calibration loops were cut so I soldered them back together. I am not able to get rpm readings when the engine is running. I have installed 3 autometer tachs in the past, and all my connections are properly secured and grounded etc. - I am wondering if there is an issue with the orange/brown calibration wires, am I not able to reattach them once cut? Thanks for any advice!

P.S. I sent an email to AutoMeter but haven't had a response in 2 weeks...

ive got an auto meter tach on my tractor, it was used when i got it. It came off of a 4 cyl tractor and my tractor is a 6, so i reconnected one of the loops and it works fine.

Is there a 4/6/8 setting?
