Default Ever replace a 289 water pump????

I Never changed a water pump on a 289 and my book (of course) does not say much about it. It has a backing plate with a gasket and I also have another gasket with it. I assume I leave the backing plate on (which has a gasket between it and the pump) and put the additional gasket between the backing plate and the timing cover. Correct????

I'm a little confused due to the backing plate, never saw something sandwiched between the water pump and the timing cover (never replaced a ford water pump). I feel so stupid with such a simple thing..[]

Remember which bolts go where. My friend replaced his and tried to force one in that was too long and messed up the block
