Cleanup has begun.....
LOLOLOLOL... spectacular pix, man, absolutely spectacular. You are drudging up some good memories, but like I said before, yeah, I had it nowhere near as bad as you do. You da Big Dawg if you can fix that (and I have no doubt you can).
Check out the previous repair here to the rear of the driver's side floor pan. Some guy took a piece of flat sheet metal, notched it in the corner, painstakingly crafted it to shape with a dozen smacks from a ballpein hammer, poured roofing tar over the old rust, the completed the "repair" with a bunch of sheet metal screws. That's a level of old-world craftsmanship and attention to detail you just don't see every day!

What was the deal with green 70-73s? I see more green ones than any other color? Was there some facination with christmastrees that year or something? Maybe it was the Jets or Celtics that spawned the green Ford...
Yeah I will fix it... It sure wont be a 100point resto, so its gonna be a fun car.. turns, hauls bootay, stops hard, and looks good.. hopefully next year.. if I can stay motivated...

My father in law has a 72 Mach 1 that he is the one and only owner. Drives it very little, always garage kept. I keep trying to get him to have everything inspected to see if he has any rust eating it up, he says he will but never does..... It could be such a cherry car.....
BTW thanks for the pix Thumpin, you have an amazing project going on there. I hope I'm online when you finish it!
I must have had the same "craftsman"....
bunch of sheet metal screws
i've never been fond of the stangs after 1970, even 70 i was a lil iffy about...
but lol, Thumpin, your car is like the long lost sister of mine. I almost feel bad, my car might be worse if not about the same. 72Rustang's floor is basically what mine looks like. Except with a huge flinstone hole in the drivers side...Plus some holes in the door...and just about everywhere else...thats what these cars get for living on the ocean and being left in the weather with nothing but bondo and spray paint i guess.

Well the floor came out of mine real easy. Only had to cut from the hole in the front, to the other hole in the front, to both holes in back and between them. The floor would have fallen with a thunk on the floor but the brake line and vapor return line stopped it.
When I started on it, I never thought I would find good metal under all the cancer...
See why its called the "NIGHTMARE"? Close your eyes and you see rust, rust, rust, rust everywhere!

I love looking at the color charts for those years. I think you could have ordered your car in any of about 6 different shades of lime.
This was the first and might be the only car I ever paint, so I wanted to keep it simple. Solid color, single-stage acrylic enamel. But black wasn't even a factory option for 1972. Check these out:

Anti-establish Mint??? Last Stand Custard??? LOL!!!!!!
OK, I spoke with a sandblaster today. They said they would not so and of the body as they were afraid it would warp. They will do the undercarriage though. Will the floorpans warp? I am assuming not becuase the are a thicker material? $500 and they will blast and prime then paint gloss black.... Estimated of course.....
no worries about the floorpans.. they dont get a gloss finish like a quarter panel does, and nobody will see the waves unless you are on a lift and they are intimate with the subtle curves of a factory floorpan.
Make sure the car is completely gutted, nothing left in it. No dash, headliner or interior parts at all. Remove the entire front end down to the splash aprons, it would be nice if you could pull the front suspension, but that makes it tough to move it around. Getting under the piece that holds the spring isnt fun to do, and the control arms hides dirt, there is a lip on the framerail under the upper a-arm that acts like a rust catcher. If they cant get to it, you will have to.
Some of those colors I like the names of are "There she blue" "Good clean fawn" and "Counter revolutionary red" So this year they gonna have "Counter revolutionary tan" since we are in a desert war?
