weird/scary squeaking from the back
thanks for all your advise. car will stay in my garage and I'll try to get a local garage involved for help on the repair.
maybe do it myself.
Gun, you'd be my hero for today if my diff is unharmed. can anyone confirm that a play in the diff is normal ? and if yes, how much.
I'd be glad to hear it is.
Soaring: I'll work to your advise and won't drive until i have the parts installed.
It's near winter here anyway and the next few month she'll stay in that garage anyway. just a pity the garage is a few miles away (i enbvy all of you who have a garage next to your house ....)
thanks again for all your help

The reason why I say don't drive it any more until you get the bearings repaired, is that the bearings and the retainers are the only thing holding that axle on. I'd hate to see you lose an axle.
Kalli,
I don't know any mustang part places in ireland but there are some in uk, all get parts from NPD or similar, and there is classicmustangshop.com based in Baden Baden that may carry the part. Unless your are wanting the part quickly ship it from the states you will pay import, but you should get the item tax free as it is export and it's a lot cheaper!!

Oh Paddy,
i think i still have to learn a lot. I got all my parts from cal-mustang.com. Until now i was convinced it's the cheapest way.
Now that i checked on classicmustangshop.com and gave them a quick call I realized how wrong I was.
Thanks for this link, i'll only go there in future (they're practically at the place i was born and shipping to Ireland won't be too much and no further tax apply).
and last but not least, i can communicate in german. I know all the parts names in german, but as soon as I have to speak in english I order things like "the thing that is at the rear and turns and is full of ***** ....)
thanks again, I'll order the bearings and seals now.

I just had to rebuild my rear end as well. I had fluid it was just that the gears were worn/ground up so there was a "wa wa wa wa wa" sound when the car was in motion, when braking it slowed and then stopped well when I was stopped, I changed the fuild, nothing, changed the bearings, nothing, then said to hell with it, got the 3.00 in gears and a rebuild kit, and now look at me, brand new diff with no noise! ME=Happy
sooo ....
I got rear end parts from JMD (god bless him for that!) and bearings and seals.
Car is in the garage ....
wish me (and the mechanics there) luck ;-)
