What is that yellow coating called? I believe it prevents rust? Thnaks

Hi Baddog. I believe the yellowish tint is caused by a chemical called Alodine. The bare metal is etched by an acid, then dipped into or sprayed with alodine or something similar, to help prevent corrosion. Actually I think Alodine is meant for aluminum, but the process and intent are the same.

i think it is zinc that is what they cover bolts in and it works real good

Yeah, when you go into a hardware store and get some zinc coated bolts, etc. they are that color.

I thought zinc was silver in color, hmm[&:]....

The stupid kit isnt all the same. Some is yellow(must be zinc then), some are normal metal, and the u bolts and i bolts for the leafs are the same junk that seizes up...
