Default Bleeding Master Cylinder

Ok so I have a new dual reservoir master cylinder in my car, already installed. Before I bleed the actual brakes, I need to blead the master cylinder. Now can I do this simply by hooking up the tubing and then pressing the brake pedal? or do I HAVE to "bench bleed" the master cylinder. Because if I have to do that I have to take it back out of the car, which is a real PITA.

So please someone help me out quick, can I bleed the master cylinder while its in the car?

You can just bleed it while it is hooked up. It's preferrable by most to bench bleed before installation, but if it's already in I wouldn't want to remove it.

You could use a turkey baster. Just make sure it's not the wifes or she might kill you. I use a large plunger injector and some tubing to suck the fluid out. Like an I.V. needle only bigger and without the needle.

I generally don't bench bleed my master cylinders and only bleed the system after the new cylinder is installed. Works great.

Thanks guys for the replies! My dad got home and we got to it. We believe our driver side rear brake has a clog in the line, and the passenger side took forever to only get some of the dirty fluid out. But we believe the front disks are almost finished, clean brake fluid is finally comming out. This takes longer than I thought.

Any tips on unclogging that line? or do we have to get a new brake line.....

Chances are, that the clog is at one of the ends, and not in the middle. Take the line loose and stick some .035 or .025 safety wire in the line to help un-clog it.

Look at the line, and if it is rusty and cruddy looking, now would be a good time to replace it while you are bleeding the system.
