I had a similar situation earlier this year on my 67 289. Turned out it was running very rich, power valve in the carb had a leaky diaphram. I thought it was burning oil, but the level never went down. THat could just be carbon and water/gas.

well got in there and dug around today discovered a 2 bad head gaskets, hyper crappy pistons the usual lets just slap an engine together and see what we get rebuild but i am determined to do it right i just ordered a NOS 351 4v block with a c9 cast and i have some ideas bout how im wanting to build her up
