compression.
what is the stock compression on a 289 c code? and what is the compression on a 65 shelby gt350? 10 somethin? cuz i was reading up on the gt350, apparently they have 306bhp (knew that) but can get from 0-60 in about 6 and a half seconds, now thats what im talkin aboot. i think they had a 715-750 CFM carb stock, what else does the 350 have that a stock mustang doesnt, and where can i get all those parts. 6.5 seconds would be great 0-60 if jew ask me (as apposed to my current 10 years)

RE: compression.
Dont worry about compression. 0-60 in 6.5 isnt tough to do. Half that still isnt tough with the right parts.. If you want it to move good, aftermarket heads, a mild cam, headers, 4 barrel intake, and a 650 holley. The right cam in it will put you in the 13s (faster than a GT350) even with a 2.80 gear and an auto.

intake and carb are on their way, however i got a 600 cfm carb [:@] cam will be next. gears are on the way as well (380s) already have headers and dual exhaust, heads here i come. (damn they aint cheap huh?) [&:]

RE: compression.
600 is still good. Wont make much difference really.. Dont freak out over it. I remember looking at the factory cars and wanting some of the faster ones, like a 69 RA IV Judge, but now I have a car that runs on pump gas, has overdrive, with better street manners that will walk a stock RA IV Judge all day long..
Build it to be as quick as you want it to be. Factory is trick, but not always quick. Too many compromises to fit everyone, whereas you can build it to suit YOU...

sweet then i wont freak out ive heard that the stock 289 heads are the best heads for the motor, if ported and polished...whassatmean? can anyone explain? does it make them flow better or what? any help is appreciated im engine retarded. thanks for the help so far!

RE: compression.
Yo make the ports a bit larger, and reshape them for more airflow. The intake should stay somewhat rough, but the exhuast can be mirror like it you want to take the time to do it.. A slightly bigger hole means more airflow provided it is removed from the right places. Just grinding stuff out doesnt always improve stuff.

RE: compression.
I have those stockish castings on top of my 7k rpm 302. They do work very well if ported right. Just make sure to have them machined for screw in studs if you plan on more lift. The stock push in studs will work there way out, killing performance.
I run a 650 Holley, and a 600 will be fine for a 289. CFM is a flow rating and will determine your max RPM and throttle response at lower RPM's. FYI, a 600 should take you to the 7k RPM mark on a 289.
