Default 1970 gauges

Hi Everyone!!
Im sure that this has been covered coutless times but I cant find any fourms that cover it. Im having a problem with the temp oil and gas gauge not working. So reading the service manual it should be the voltage regulator on the back of the cluster but after replacing it 4 times i moved on to the printed curcit on the back I replaced that 3 times till i broke down and bought a test a known working factory one. out of frustration I took it to to the local mustang place and they tested it and it works fine... So i checked all the grounds on the engin and there fine i even added a extra one i know to be good. I moved on to replacing the dash wiring and the all the underhood wireing. At this point something should work right? maybe im missing something but for the life of me i cant figure this out and its costing alot to keep guessing wildly. Any help will be good
Thanks!!

if by any chance of luck you live in the san diego area, theres a place called JME enterprises out in jamul. they make aftermarket gauge clusters for mustangs. i have one in my 69, and it works great.

I think you can get any combonation of autometer gauges, its definately worth the time and money. if i remember correctly, i had the same problems you did with the printed circuit and the VR, so if your not worried about a stock look, give them a call.

Im verry bent on having the stock look ive stayed true to casting numbers and every small detail. Ive spent more bring a cope back to stock than i could have ever spent on a fastback.

I am working on a 1970 mustang as well and was wondering do you have the wiring
harness from under the dash you replaced. I am helping a friends kid get into muscle
cars and the previous owner was a butcher with the wiring. I need the plug which
holds the harness into the cluster since the clips are broken. The harness is all
cut up and spliced, looks like a birds nest. Would be interested in the whole harness
under the dash if you have it?
Thanks
Pete
By chance have you checked to see if the gauges themselves work? Gas gauges usually work based on resistance and as the float in the tank goes down the resistance in the wire goes up causing the gauge needle to fall. Is the other a gauge or a light. Check to see if that gauge works off a voltage feed or resistance and try to create the power source. Hope this helps!

Maybe the temp, oil and fuel sending units have failed. If they all failed at once then I'd suspect an electrical failure. If they failed one at a time then I'd suspect a sensor/float failure. Or maybe its just a case of the wires coming off. Check the fuel sending unit wire on the fuel tank. (Also check its ground). Check the wire on the temp and oil press sending unit.

Now that I stop to think about this they stoped working when I went back to the orginal 302 I also replaced the temp sensor twice and put my known good one back in . Also I put my old oil sending unit back in. I think the car wants the worng engin in it. but now i have a bigger task at hand of rewiring the plastic clip that attaces to the back of the gauges. If anyone has there dash apart a diagra would help sooo much. I have the service manual from for for just eltrical but im missing 3 wires and i dont want to do the smoke test.
