Default Rear Drum Question

Making sure I'm not an idiot is a challenge, but here we go.

I have an original 65 289 car. When it comes to getting rear shoes and hardware, I know I have 10x2 brakes. The drums say to discard at 10.006.

Is it a correct assumption to say that all v8 cars had the larger brakes.

The 6 bangers have a 4 bolt 9 inch drum, whereas the V8's have a 5 bolt 10 inch drum.
