hmmm
knowing what i know now that i have a 66. definatly v8 (everyone here will say v8....almost) but also, i know its hard to find now but 67 and higher, they made the engine bay bigger for the 390's so you can throw big blocks in there, if u want, without having to dick which a bunch of clearance issues
woops, too many beers and answered the question before reading it all the way thru. kinda depends on what you want to do with it really. if u want a restomods that all your own that you can customize to your hearts delite....then what i said. wait to find a good 67 platform to build up from, dont worry if the body doesnt look the best just make sure the frame is good and their is no car cancer (ie: rust). but if just something to restore either of those are a good bet but id go with the 289

Go with the V8 car. Sure, the color may not be what you want, but that is something that can be changed over time. Heck, adding black pieces to the interior is easy and the black will match the existing colors, even making it look a lot better.
If you can see rust starting, you won't want to find out what isn't visible. My '71 was visually flawless when I bought it. I wound up replacing both doors, both front fenders, both quarters (inner and outer), and a few engine bay panels. And, a magnet test was performed.
Have fun!!!
and get the V8.

Based on your description of the two cars, the 6 would have to be dirt cheap to make it the better buy. Personally, I would want the V8 no matter the price, but then I'm older with more disposable income.
I have no need for a 6 banger no matter what shape it's in. 6 grand is not too much for a 289 car that is in good shape like that one. If you have to make car payments, you will be surprised how fast time passes then the car will be totally yours. Get the V8
I do really want the V8 but I really cant afford to take a loan out....I have to pay my phone bill every month, car insurance which almost kills me, along with other spendings gas etc... I mean I make a fairely decent income working at UPS but I also try to save some money in the bank....Agh I really wish the women who owns the V6 would call back ( she called the other night while I was at work and my dad didnt answer it[:@]) that would really help my decision..... anywho I have a few pics of the V8 here they are.

well how much can you afford out of pocket? my 67 cost 55 I took a loan for 5 and only pay 120 a month, so if you could afford say 2000 up front that drops your loan to 4 and you'd have decent payments, also see if you can talk the V8 down a grand.
so you can't afford under 200 a month?? don't mean to pry but that 6 might be more than 2200, maybe you're dad can loan you the rest of the cash or at least a little to drop a loan payment even more. I'm just trying to get you a V8
