Default convertable or fastback transformation

I was inquiring and went to several profesional metal fabricators and was told that i could not have my sunroof patched and i would need to get a donor roof from another mustang and i have searched and have found little luck finding a donor car for a couple hundred bucks.I was toying with the idea of a conversion to a fastback or a convertable which i have access to several good welders to make either one of these ideas happen just curious on what i should do here kind of at a fork in the road..

Converting from a coupe to a FB or Vert would end up costing you several thousand bucks. It can be done but it is MAJOR surgery.

Put an ad on Craig's list or a local bill board looking for someone who's got a doner coupe they are using for a 6 to 8 conversion, and buy the roof from them.

You're in Washington state, right? Huge Mustang group up there. Get hold of some of the local mustang clubs and get the word out that you need a cheap roof.

Try here. This is the VMF page for buy/sell for the Pacific Northwest. Probably a good chance you'll get some closer help here.

I'm a little confused here.

You currently have a sunroof that needs to be fixed - assuming you just want to fill in the slot and make it back to a solid roof.

You've been told that it can't be done? I'm a little concerned about that actually. There should be no reason a skilled welder can't fit a piece of patch work in there, weld and make it where you could ever tell it was ever a sunroof. I'm going to go on a limb here and say that your car is more likely than not, not the only Mustang on this planet that has ever had a sunroof at one time and had it welded back up.

Why can't it be done? It just seems to me that the welder you talked to is not *wanting* to do it more than it not able to be done. I've seen some stuff repaired that I would have never even begin to touch. So, for one to say it *can't* be done, would have to convince me it couldn't.
