Coupes (and convertibles) are the original Mustangs. Fastbacks were an afterthought.

An afterthought, none-the-less.

The fastbacks came out in mid 64, so not exactly an afterthought. However you guys are right about the vert and coupe being the very first built Mustangs.

I guess the coupe is what it'll have to be. The fastbacks just seem so difficult to find in great condition under $20,000. Is finding a '67 coupe under $20,000 going to be just as difficult (at least one in good condition). I have seen a couple online that look decent under 20 but it is hard to tell how much restoration has been done.

Don't settle for a coupe if your hart is in a fastback. Keep looking and if you find a coupe that you fall for then go for it but just don't stop looking. As for finding one, it took two years for me to find a"good" one and it was a pile when we started to take it apart. So pictures won't tell you a thing. I found that getting classifidesfrom different citys worked better for looking because if you can post your car on the net you can also look for pricing on the net, hence the outrageous pricing.......I remember finding a bunch in the L.A. area back then..

Technically, the 64 1/2 Mustang is a 1964 as the first vehicles rolled in April of that year. The production of the Fastback was closer to the release of the 1965 model year...hence the 1965 year designation.

The fastback was an afterthought, especially when you consider the various renditions...such as:

The 1962

And the 1963

Both 'verts, by the way.

Soaring, you'll have to go back to my "afterthought" post to see the wink emot...I was attempting to be funny.

Without roping me to a pole and setting me on fire while tossing rocks at me but what's the big deal with the 67's? I have a 65 fastback.
