I placed my other "new" spring beside the wore out 6 cyl. spring I took off to compare the heights of the two, the are nearly identical. The newer spring has a larger wire diameter. So I guess they are not too long. Anyone have any new thoughts?

I think it looked all pooched out because the lower arm wasn't connected to the other parts and it allowed it to swing down lower than usual.

Its too long. The perch rotates as the spring compresses or extends. I just did mine and with the upper control arm unsupported and laying on the frame the spring should not bow like that.

The springs on my 68 coupe with a 302 use a 5/8 bar diameter and has 8.5 total coils. I count 9 and 9.25 total coils on the springs in the picture. If the pictured sprngs are 5/8 bar diameter and have 9 and 9.25 total coils those springs are weaker than what I am using and may be from a 6 cylinder.

The springs I took off measure to be 0.58 inch diameter (9/16") I assume they are the factory springs and this was a 6 cyl. car, the springs I am installing are 0.625 inchdiameter (5/8"), they were purchased last year.

Unless I was given the wrong part (which has happened before), these should be for a V8. I don't know if there is a difference between big block and small block springs, but I ordered springs for a 68 Mustang with a 390/428.
