Default Dim Gauge Lights 73 Convert

The instrument panel lights are real dim, including the heater panel lights. It seems like I recall there is a regulator(?) that controls the voltage to the panel lights or could it be the headlight switch. The headlight switch will dim the lights all the way, but they will not get very bright. Is there a different bulb that could be used (ie. lower voltage so it would burn brighter), currently the bulb used is a 194. I hate to just start replacing parts.

i say look into switching to some LED's in the back of it. even on the lowest setting they are bright as hell due to how efficient they are. they last forever [basically] too

Remove the green/blue lenses that block the light.

The trouble is you get conditioned to the lights inside modern car dash boards, then when you drive your classic it looks dim.

Here is a good article on why they are dim, and how you can brighten them up.

Thanks for all the replys. The article provided by Soaring is great. My lights are way too dim to see at night, so it is not just the differnce between the modern car and the old Mustang. I will post when I resolve the problem.
