No..that's why I noted it was an OpenTracker Roller Idler arm. It replaces the rubber bushing design with a roller bearing design. For a manual steer car, it makes it easier to turn at slow speeds.

My steering components are all new or refurbished so I would hate to go back and mess with it, but I have been thinking about buying that idler arm for mine. I converted to manual but was afraid it would be very hard driving slow. Was it an obvious improvment?

Very obvious. I previously had a new standard idler arm in it, and unbeknownst to me when I installed it, the wheels were slightly turned. So after installation and when I'd drive it, I was always fighting it, trying to hold it straight.

The only down side to the roller that I've found is that on a crowned or sloping road surface, it will want to wander to follow the curviture moreso than stock. That's an exception situation. The ease of steering outweighs that issue.

The streets in this area are terrible anyways, so either or would follow the grooves of the road I bet. Since I am still in restoration and haven't had a good alignment, or than by my eyes, it would probably be ******* some directionif it was running...an alignment will come in the future

Old thread fishing....

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how easy it is to install that roller idler arm from Opentracker? Thinking about going that route. What is involved in doing the job? Will a front end alignment be necessary?

My idler arm bolt appears to be bent downward. I want to replace it.
But an upgrade to my labor intensive manual steering wouldn't hurt!!

Thanks!

15 minutes and it is done. Very easy and no you will not need an alignment. The alignment shop guys will say you do but you don't.

Thanks, 67. I think I am going to go ahead and order one up.
Should be a good upgrade.
Cheers!
