On the early cars 65-8 the cigg lighter is grounded when it is attachedto the dash. On yours I'm not sure. If the hole it goes in is metal it will be grounded. Any metal on the car is a good ground. It all depends on how well you fasten it.

The cigg lighter is near the center console thing, not on the dash. My main Q is can you just ground it on a wire that is already connectied to a ground?

there should be a ground close by, if not in the ash tray.
