Different types on POSI?
Right now my 9 inch has 3.73's and its OPEN. I have the rear off now and would like to put in a posi, BUT. What type? I hear of many diff kinds ie. true-trac/ trac-LOK/detroit locker and more. What would be the best bang for the buck? I know some are all GEAR and some are clutch. But whats the most reliable? Where is a good CHEAP place to get one? Can i pick one up for 250$ i see a few on ebay NEW for 225$ -Jon
If you will be racing or beating on it regularly...

If you are just cruising around, have a low powered engine and wont race it often, nor beat on it with sticky tires, then you can get by with these.

After building rear ends with minispools, and cheaper drop ins, then putting them behind a high torque engine, I have found its cheaper to do it right the first time than throw $200-$300 at it every 6 months to a year. The differential takes a huge amount of abuse from normal driving, add performance type things or racing and things will break eventually.
I tend to overbuild now, that way I dont have to fix it again while I own the car. I own them for a long time too.

FWIW, I've had limited slips, automatic locking diffs (detroits, ez-locker) and manual locking diffs (ARB). For a street vehicle, you will be making a compromise on ride with an automatic locker. You'll hear things like "it is hardly noticeable" or "you get used to it." The bottom line is that it is noticeable and it is a necessary evil to gain that traction. IMO, a limited slip is perfectly adequate for all street driven vehicles and I wouldn't go to an automatic locker unless you were a racer or had other driving styles that would otherwise prematurely wear out the discs in a limited slip.
