The original owner had it repainted to GOLD when they had it rebuilt. Was this this original color? I think it maybe was as they were pretty miticulous to keep stock with everything else.
A code 289...
What say you?

Yes, that is the correct original color on the air cleaner and valve covers for any '64.5 or '65 289 (A-, C-, or D-code). The '64.5 D-code would not have the "289" decal on the air cleaner lid.
Except for the red spark plug wires, it looks like a nice original A-code engine.

We have the only year that Mustangs came with gold valve covers and air cleaners. All the rest were blue. Check out the section in the FAQ regarding how to detail your engine without pulling it. Here is how it should look with the black wires.

I need to take a day to just clean up my engine compartment. I think it's been painted recently so it should be nice under that dust.

Yeah, yours looks like you just have to power wash it and hit the hoses with some Armor-All. I just recently put a monte carlo bar on mine, and an export brace goes in next week.

Looks good.... yep I think I'm going to do that when the weather decides to stop freezing.
I may wait on the monte carlo bar though... heh

Soaring,
I love that gold color. I've only seen one tough. There is a 64 1/4 coupe with a 289 and a 4 speed all original sitting in a barn about 15 mintues from me. Too bad there is a whole in the floor board the size of my waste. I've been trying to get the guy to sell it for a few years now.
