i have been driving my stock engine for a while now, but i want somethin with a little more jump and i got a good bit of money to spend, sothis is the setup i was hopin to run.
ORIGINAL: Soaring

It seems to me that you should just run your stock engine and save your money to get enough to rebuild the entire engine at once. That way, all the parts are matched, and broken in together. It won't kill you to drive a stock engine for a few years. I know.....I've been doing it for 10.

+1 for what soaring said.

if you must do something sooner, i'd just throw a smaller cam in there, most likely your 351 is a flat tappet so a cam/lifter combo is relatively cheap. stick with something in the .475-.500 lift range, and use whatever springs they recommend. if you go to .600 lift not only will you have to change springs you'll probably need to have the guides machined down so the retainers arent hitting the valve seals.

trust the wisdom of the forums, thats why you came here for advice

If you are running stock heads, and gotta have a cam right now, this is the biggest you will be able to run. A set of springs and some roller rockers would be a good choice along with it. This thing sounds nasty and makes good power, you do need a 2500+ stall or the 4 speed and at least 3.50 gears with it.

Go bigger and make a pig, or buy a cam no bigger than this and have something that is actually fun to drive.

Or dont take my advice, get this and have a very slow car that wont spin the tires and will get spanked by stock Civics.
CamStyle: Hydraulic flat tappet BasicOperatingRPMRange: 4,000-7,000 RPM IntakeDurationat050inchLift: 239 ExhaustDurationat050inchLift: 247 Durationat050inchLift: 239 int./247 exh. or a solid cam that needs lashed with polylocks..

CamStyle: Mechanical flat tappet BasicOperatingRPMRange: 3,800-7,800 RPM IntakeDurationat050inchLift: 255 ExhaustDurationat050inchLift: 263 Durationat050inchLift: 255 int./263 exh. Both of the bottom two, and the bottom one is the smallest .600 lift cam I could find, will make your car a slug that idles like crap, eats gas, and will bog, stutter, stumble, puke, fart, cough, and gag with the stock heads and even a 4 speed..

I know because I put a smaller can in a 400ci engine with better heads than the stock Windsor heads and it was horrible.

But hey, find out for yourself, put that huge cam in a stock engine and find out how much of a pig it is. If you run faster than a 15.0 you will have been towed that fast.
