very true andrew in 71 to 73 models..comon rust arena's i have seen on other cars of this year..is on the back windsheld...water likes to gather on the corners around the trim and start rust....and the trunk is a comon rust spot...rubber allways rots out...front fenders like to rust were it bends under and has a little shelf..likes to colect road grime and water there..i check that spot when im lookin at these years..cause i constantly clean it out on mine...i seen some bad spots of rustthere alot....comon under the fender rustlike most autos.

hard to find parts...hardest is a stock carb for a boss..cj or HO cleveland of these years...to find a stock autolite spread bore 4300d original with date tagto match is going to cost a arm and a leg now days...too many people threw them away over there years..and it was a very specific carb to these cars..and most of the orignal manifolds wont work with out mods...so alot of them have hit the scrap heap too...from what i seen thou..a rebuildble 4300d spread bore core runs about 3,000 dollars...worth more than 4v heads..lol..amazing huh? well everyone kept the heads..but junked the carbs...so dont junk that old spread bore if you have it..i allmost threw mine away,,till i figured out how much they were going for..lol

positive.,.find one for sale,,,plenty of 4300's on ebay..and a 4300d clone..a fake 4300d goes for 700 to 800 bucks..lol.but you wont find one 4300d original on there..lol..i looked for a long time now..i havent found one ..not even a unrestored one for sale on ebay nor online..lol..rare beast...carbs are a dirty bis right now,..people really dont wanna let it out that some carbs are worth a ton cause ford didnt make any replacements and didnt mass produce them for truck or industrial....ever hear of ponycarbs? there a company that specializes in pony carbs...here is a link to them selling a clone 4300d http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWD1V

they want allmost 700 for it..read what they say about the orignal 4300d spread bore

when i hear about restamping carbs..alot of companies will freak...cause they will get a rep of faking carbs...but! ifit is a original spreadbore 4300d even for a auto...they mite be willingto work out a trade with you on it...im sure some one out there with a auto 429cj just screeming to have to original carb for his car

threw out the years so many people have junked these carbs...alot hit the scrap yards..now people are wanting to be all original and most of the carbs are gone..lol atleast the preformance ones..cause people were constantly upgrading there hot rods...heck i allmsot threw mine away..lol

only reason i stumbled onto this...was my cousin was getting rid of a quadjet on his tranz am..it turned out too be a carb for a orignal ram air 3..some one offered him 1000 for it ...then he got a email from some one saying..hey..dont let some of these guys fool you...that carb you got is worth about 4,000..cause they got junked back in there day,,,,he pulled peoples teeth to get info..but he figured out..yes it is worth that much...not all stock carbs are...only a few are just cause they were short lived or on specific cars only

ya,,i thought the same thing when i first looked into it..i thought huh..they not spendy at all..but then i tried to find one on ebay for sale..i couldnt find one..i found that clone 4300d being sold on ebay for 659..but about 700after shipping and handling...then i seen it was from pony carbs....and i read below in there own ebay add..mycarbsays d1zf-za

4300D Spreadbore for Boss 351

This is one of our specialty products. The day the carburetors were manufactured they had engineering problems. In driveability, those problems were hesitations and flat spots on acceleration, a general lack of power and hard starting when hot. We correct all of these problems during the restoration by re-engineering the internal specifications of the carburetor. This is a fully "Concours" restored original carburetor. Due to the unavailability of cores (unrestored carbs) we are selling the "concours" restoration clone of the original. Original D1ZF-ZA cores can run upwards of $3000.00 unrestored. This CLONE looks almost identical to the original and RUNS MUCH better.
