Default Question on "codes"

I keep seeing "R" , "S", "A", Even a J & K Code.Can someone tell me what these mean??

T - 200 ci 1V 6 cyl 120 hp
C - 289 ci 2V V-8 200 hp
A - 289 ci 4V V-8 225 hp
K - 289 ci 4V V-8 271 hp
S - 390 ci 4V V-8 320 hp

Different codes or engine codes more specifically refer to the engine the car was manufactured with. This "code" comes directly from the VIN. Below is a link to a listing of vin codes 65-70. You'll find most often people only refer to the more popular ones...the K code (289 hipo) the S code (390 4v).
