Default 347 Stroker

Well, with no baseball this summer, I will need some sort of project to work on periodicly. I find the idea of stroking a 302 to a 347 very interesting. I am curious if anyone has done this, or knows what i would be in for.

i pay an engine builder, so no direct experience. he started building one for me for my 66, but then I blew an engine in another car. I ended up selling the 347 before i'd used it to build a 351w/408 stroker for the other one. that is finished and due back in the car in the next few weeks.

As far as I know, you buy it as a kit with different crank and rods and then the rest is no different to if you were rebuilding a stock 302.

your setup on the rest of the car sounds real nice so this would be a logical step for more grunt.

your carb may be a little small, so that is a consideration asare the heads..you'd want something fairly decent to flow the extra.

headers and exhaust should be fine. Inlet manifold probably ok too. You'd get a cam and make a choice on all the other bits depending on intended final hp and budget!!

theres probably more in the FAQ section
good luck

i wonder if you have to notch the bottom of the cylinders for the rods to clear? even if it was so, buy a 347 balanced rotating assembly and just assemble like you would anything else. slap on some old 351 or gt40 heads and you'll be happy. bolt on some AFR's and you'll be REALLY happy

well your gonna get more power out of a stroker motor of course with that intake. i dont know ne exact number between a 302 or a 347, id figure around another couple hp. pretty good intake but i would (along with a bunch of other ppl on the site) recommend a weiland stealth intake from holly

performer rpm heads are very nice, i would imagine if you use them a performer rpm intake would be a safe bet.... or even better a RPM airgap

You do have to notch the bottom of the cylinders but its no big deal. You just put the crank in the block and take a connecting rod with a piston on it no rings. and put it in each cylinder and mark the spot for the notch. then take a diegrinder and make the notch. By the way the kit should include the crank, rods, pistons, rings and rod & main bearings. You can get it here for $ 899 http://tandlengines.com/
