Title Help
Hey all! New here and thought this would as good a place as any for my dilemma. I purchased a '67 Coupe about three years ago. It's just a basic 200/C4 but it does have factory selectaire and factory tilt-away steering column(which I understand is a very rare option in '67). My problem is this:
The guy I bought it from had the title but couldn't find it. He said he would mail it to me. Now the guy is in jail for murder(nice) and I have no way to get the title. Do you know any way to get a title? I know that some states don't require titles for cars 1975 and older. I live in NC and, unfortunately, NC isn't one of those states. I hate to sell the car because it's a really solid restoration candidate. But I don't wanna put a lot of money in it if I can't get it legal to drive (no title, no registration, no tag, no inspection). You guys have any ideas??? I thought maybe I could get a salvage title...any thoughts?
Also, just out of curiousity, does anyone know just how rare the tilt-away column option really was?
Thanks folks

Welcome to the forum! I know that in Ohio you can get a replacement title but the person that the car was last titled to (since you never titled it, it would have to be the last owner) has to get the replacement. Thats all the better I can do for you, sorry. I would contact the title office and see what they have to say.
As far as the tilt-away, it was a rare option. I cannot give you exact numbers for 67, but my 69came witha tilt-away and only a little over 3% of 69 Mustangs had tilt-away columns. For all classic mustangs I read that less than 1% came with the tilt-away column (dont know if that stat includes 65-66 cars that did not have the option or not). Kevin Marti from Marti Autoworks has a book called "Mustang, by the numbers" which would tell you how many cars were made with certain options.

sounds like if its something rare it might be worth keeping a 200 6 even though that takes alot of the fun factor out of it..... have the jailbird file for lost title, since its all thru the mail he should be able to do it. guys in jail like writing letters anyways
