So when exactly are all of you guys who think the 4.6 is so completely awesome going to drop one in YOUR car? When are yougoing to spend $15k to put an engine in that is still relatively stock? Sorry but 390hp that the 03-04 Cobraengine has can be VERY EASILY duplicted. As for mileage, well the 4.6 isnt all that great on gas, especially not the Cobra. reliable? Well the engine might run and not make noise but if you didnt do som really fine engineering when you put it in there, you will have problems EVERYWHERE else in the car..
You can find complete 4.6 engines that come with the trans for less than $5K on ebay all day long.

As far as the 03-04 Cobra engine goes, it's worth it. With bolt ons and a pulley swap you will be around 475-500rwhp. People are taking off the SC and throwing a turbo kit on there and are getting a reliable 800rwhp. You cannot do that with your 289/302/351.

The reason I don't drop one in my car is because it's a K code. If it was a C code or a non GT A code it would have a modular engine and either a TKO600 or T56 transmission.

Thanks for the kind words James. I appreciate it.

And yes...it is fun to drive. 70mph at 2100 rpms in 5th gear.

It's the best of both worlds*S*

Hello 67Sally,

Would I be out of line in mentioning that the Star Wars storm trooper on your posts kind of distracts me?

I am not saying I want you to take it off or complaining about it, just making an observation. I have to position my browser window carefully to avoid distraction!!
Yezzir. It should be gone now. If it isn't then it will be momentarily.

The price of the engine and the transmission is only a part of the cost of such a project, a lot of money would be spent making this big little engine fit.

If I were looking to spend the kind of cash needed to pull off such a swap, I would want to make sure that that junkyard engine was good, which essentially means a teardown inspection, and at least a partial rebuild.

As far as making that kind of HP, it is within the realm of possibility for a SBF to reach this kind of HP, but just like any motor, HP takes money, (yes even for the 4.6)and no one is going to make 800 RWHP, and use it, without suffering from reliability issues, SBF OR 4.6, and you will never convince me otherwise, it is a common sense issue.

I can take that same $5,000 dollars for the e-bay 4.6, and go a long long way to having a very strong 351 stroked to 408, forged crank, roller cam and rockers, Forged H beam rods, aluminum heads, and forged pistons, making about 500 hp, I know this because I ordered all of this and more on wednesday to put in my $400 351 block. I think It should make about 500 HP, for me, that is mor than enough. I guess I could probably get a few more hp out of it withNOS and / or a blower, but anyway..... Turbos are just to bulky for my tastes. As a bonus, I only need to buy one camshaft.

4 camshafts do not make an engine.

What I say above is nothing more than my opinion, but I think I am right (don't all of us value our own opinions in the same fashion?), and as I have already said somewhere in this forum, "reasonable people can disagree"!!, which I think we always will on this particular subject, because I wont budge, and I don't think you will either.

Since neither of us will budge, the best we can do is put on a show for others!!!

Take care BlackLX!!

5k for a used junkyard engine and probably another 5k to get it in a older mustang and running and yes you can build a 800hp small block ford its been done look at drag racing my point of starting this was to understand why cut the car almost in half to put in a smaller ci engine with over head cams and alot of wiring

Hey to each his own if you ask me... If you want fuel injectors and computers and have alotta money laying around and you want something unique, drop in a new motor!! When I wear out my Windsor, thats something I'm considering.
