Shifting Problems

As a 16 year old, you have done all that can be expected by making sure the fluid level is correct. Now, it is time for a pro to analyze your tranny's problems. Either take it to a tranny shop, or park it.

Hey LCC, can you describe further how to check if the linkage is correct? I have a feeling that could have been screwed up when I had the tranny supported by the jack when I had the engine out of the car. I hope that that is what it is. Thanks a lot.
As you click the shifter into a gear, you need to verify that the shifter on the trans has done the same and is seated in gear. Again , just pick the first gear which is reverse and on the trans verifiy that It's in reverse "correctly" by taking the linkage off the trans and wiggiling the lever to make sure it is in gear and that it dosen't just drop into gear, that means that it was between or just before the gear. With the linkage off you'll be able to shift the gears by hand, that's ok as long as you don't start adjusting the linkage before putting the lever back to theoriginal positon.
Remember....once you "think" your done, verify that you are in the correct gears, that all gears arein syncbefore starting the car and driving. Just start in park and shift one by one PRN321, should line up....
