My car is alive, and its not that great.

Open the hood and with the engine off, try replicating the same problem by hand. You may find that the linkage is binding because it is bent, or your return spring is weak.

I removed the old return spring and installed a new one last night. The car seems to be doing ok but im still apprehensive, she is very crafty. I will put some more miles on her tonight and see if she is still in control.

Check for a broken motor mount. The motor will twist just enough to bind up the throttle rod. I remember another thread similar to this one and that was the cause. You could probably do a search and find the thread. Good luck!

Just wanted to say thanks to those who replied, your comments helped greatly. I had installed a new return spring a little under a week ago, and the demon is no longer. I have complete control over acceleration. I bought a return spring from a local auto shop and its rigged up pretty shotty. I am missing the return spring bracket so for the time being I had to coil one end of the return spring around a bolt that the previos owner was using as some sort of custom bracket. So far it runs fine but fixing this is on the top of my to do list. Any recommendationg on an accelerator bracket or would anyone be fine?
A cheap little throttle return spring beats having to swap out a motor mount any day. They sell aftermarket brackets at just about any good auto parts store. I'd make it the number one fix on the list... cheap, easy and dangerous if you don't!
