disconnecting throttle cable

how do i disconnect the throttle cable from an autolite 2100? do i have to cut it?

No, you don't cut it. There are two places you can disconnect. One is near the firewall. Just take out the cotter key and the rod will pull out. The other is on the carb itself. Look at the black clip in the 2nd pic. Just flip that up and the rod will pull out of the hole.
