I'm with you lostsrf07, I am 20 for another 2 weeks and I have yet to quit working on my mustang for any other reason than not enough money but even then I just pick up a couple hours here and there at work and then I do something else to the car. I did a 351w swap at 18 in my 65 and that cost me dearly. I currently have about 16000 into my car. The car cost was 6000, the motor was pushing 5000 and the rest were just simple mods. Too bad you're so far away, I have the old 289 and drivetrain as well as the v8 front suspension up for sale. Just a warning, stick to a 289 or a 302 unless your prepared to spend a ton of money and run into unnecessary problems. I pulled the motor again and this time it isnt going back together until it is a blown 408w stroker with a tko and 4 link with coilovers. To add engine bay room I will be picking up a heidts super ride for the front end and then I am going to paint the whole car. Be prepared for a large cost if you are going to swap that v8. If you are going restomod even close to the point that I am, be glad you have a 6 cylinder car because you will be swapping out everything anyways. Good luck

Thanks guys, u've been alot of help.. and as for Soaring, i asked for help, not to get crap for my age. i have plenty of money in the bank, and dont worry about my wrentching experience, i have a fair amount. and i've had the car for 13 years, you really think im going to abandon it? gimme a break...

It would mainly be a weekend driver, and the occasional hr and a half drive to philadelphia.. has anyone actually done the swap that could give me an estimated price??

And is there anyone who knows anything of the strength of the I-6 as far as hp capabilities...if they are decent any alternatives to greatly adding power to that slug?
Actually, I am helping you. You will have more money poured into your project than you can ever hope to realize. Are you sure you want a project that when you are finished with it, that it will be worth a whole lot less than you actually have in it? If so, so then go ahead with the conversion. Which welder do you have?

My 2 cents worth...ask yourself the following:

1. Are you going to rebuild the suspension/steering with all new parts?
A. Yes...go with a 347 stroker (it will cost the same to do it for a 6).
B. No....Buy a V-8 car

2. Are you going to keep the car for a very long time? (because you will NEVER get close to your money back)
A. Yes....do #1-A
B. No.....Buy a V-8 car

Nobody can make this call for you, but don't allow yourself to be swayed by emotion.

Plan on spending 12-15K.... and that doesn't include bodywork or paint.

Exactly. Often times young ones get confused as to the cost of restoring these old Mustangs. They just slap on some big shiny 18" wheels with spacers and say they have a classic Mustang. Pfffftt. Dumb kids.

Calm down Soaring. I dont think like that at all about my classics, and im only 18. I like restoring my cars to close to original but having goodies like GT packages, Pony packages, etc. added to it.

why does everyone think that anyone under 30 wants huge chrome rims...just because we're young doesnt mean we dont have taste when it comes to fixing up a classic.
