help with ignition
well i got the 65 running today. finished the tranny and all the linkages. problem i ran into is that the ignition is dead. i replaced my alternator with a single wire alternator. i beleive i may have hooked something up wrong. all i did was install the single wire to the positive side of the selinoid. the other wires are not hooked to anything. turn the key and there is nothing. hot wire starts the car right up though.
on another bad note it seems that because my car sat for a year that the carb needs to be rebuilt now. its a brand new carb that was fired a year ago and then sat. the accelerator pump does not work nor does the choke. rebuild it?
thanks for the help.

My carb sat for eight years and worked great at first start up. Have you checked the level in the fuel bowls yet? You can replace the accelerator pump and fix the choke without rebuilding the carb.
You have the alternator hooked up correctly, and it's time for a carb rebuild.
As for the ignition problem, you need to find which wire gets 'hot' with the key in the 'ON' position. This wire goes to the 'I' terminal on the solenoid. The wire that gets hot when in the 'Start' position should go to the 'S' terminal.
If you can't find these wires, you'll need to trace back toward the key to find the break in the wire.

"the other wires are not hooked to anything" If this is true this is your problem. You still have to power up the rest of the systems on the car. All those wires that went to the positive side of the solenoid need to be hooked up to get power to the fuse block.
Sorry, I have not studied the stock charging circuit yet, honestly I dont know just what goes through the regulator and how it goes through. I know I will need to know soon when it comes time to upgrade the alternator to an internally regulated system.
I will take a look at it tomorow, and if you don't get some answers from more some folks who are moreimformed than me, I will give it a shot! I have confidence that someone will step up to the plate though!
