Default Wiring Woes

ok im a little discouraged right now. i went through my tail light and turn signal wiring to try to fix what i thought was a grounding problem. i have everything just like the diagram shows but nothing works now. before i messed with it the turn signals kind of worked and the brake lights worked and now nothing works. its like it's not getting any power or something but i dont see why it wouldnt be. what could i be doing wrong? its a 65 btw.

I don't have any idea what the problem is but I do have advice. When I work at something hard and long (I have built probably 20 computers and fixed a hundred others) and things just do not work, I have tried everything, I can't explain it, and I am getting frustrated, and I usually at the point where whatever else I am doing I am making the problem worse, then it is time to just leave it for at least a day.

Yep, walk away and come back later. I sometimes come back, look over my work and solve it within 5 minutes. I may feel stupid for not finding it before, but I was too frustrated or too blind to see the problem after working so hard on it.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I had a problem like yours during my rewiring - I finally tracked the problem to a turn signal indicator bulb that had grounded on the dash display.
Good luck

I had a similar problem too turned out one of the wires to the front left turn signal inicator had broken right at the plug. The wire was broken inside the insulation so it looked like a good wire.
Another thing it could be is the actual turn signal switch in the steering column ,or maybe the plug for the turn signal wires at the base of the column.
hope this helps

You said "It's like it's not getting power". Find out if it is getting power. Grab your test light and jam!!

Start at the socket and work your way forward. Pay special attention to what you have already "fixed". Check your fuses to makesure you didn't blow it during your "repairs". You just have to chop the legs off of the elephant.

Once you start making the problem worse you shouldn't be too proud to walk away for a while.
Have a drink, noodle it out and go back at it.

CHEERS!!

well i stopped for the day...ill get back to it later in the week and see if i can figure it out. it shouldn't be the turn signal switch in the steering wheel because that is relatively new, actually now that i think about it i have another question. the turn signal and horn wiring are together in the steering wheel and my horn wires arnt hooked up because i dont have a horn, could this be part of the problem?
