Default heads

hey i have a 289 66 mustang and i am looking into drag racing it. i got a 575 cfm demon carb and i am going to get headers, sidepipes and a msd ignition. i was reading the forum and saw a lot of people recomending head work. i have no idea about head work, could you guys suggest a company for heads and how much will this cost me.

p.s what kind of headers do you think i should get that will give me a lot of hp.

thanks

Good heads is a must! If you are going to drag you mustang, Get some Alm. heads.

For headers, I use Hooker headers. Don't know if they are the best for you , but they are good headers.

Slapping on a new set of alum heads or even doing port work on the existing heads will definitely improve performance. The key for good performance is in the combination of components. Cam, heads, carb, exhaust, intake etc. If your plan is to do it one component at a time, things will improve, but you will not reach optimum until all the pieces of the puzzle work together.

Go with red. He is right all the way. It is better to do all of the work at one time.

If you want to drag race, than heads are mandatory. There are tons of different priced ones around. How deep are you bank account pockets? On the less expensive side are some cast iron GT-40P or X heads. More money get you aluminum Edlbrock, Holley, or ARP (Air Flow Research).
For out and out racing, try Trick Flow R Series, Edelbrock Victor Jr, and Brodix Track 1. And while you’re at it, get a roller cam. It’s better for higher RPM.
