Default GT40 heads

I got a guy....... with some gt40 heads off a 98 explorer. He said i would have to use new rods, and other stuff to convert to them because they have the pedestal type rockers. What do i got to do? [:'(]

if there from a 98 then they are gt40p heads ull need the correct pushrods for a motor with pedestal rockers and swap headers because of the angle of the spark plugs maybe check the faq for a header fitment guide also gtp should be cast on the heads if they are in fact gt40p

and the regular gt40 hat gt cast into them

if they are from a 98 then then SHOULD be gt40 P's, which are even better BUT have revised spark plug locations and normal headers dont work. i know theyh make fox body headers for the P heads, i dunno how that comes into play for the older model stangs.

the P head will have a P cast right into the head, its easy to ID. both GT40 heads (if i remember) have 3 lines cast into the end of the head, quick easy ID that they are something special.

even the regular gt40's flow better than the old 351w's (if both are in stock form). you'll probably need different length pushrods, but thats it.

Damn, I think they're off a 98, IT's the 96-97 that had the regular GT40 heads then? Are they worth the trouble?

like i said the P's are better, you just need to see if the headers will work. if they'll let ya take one head and do a quick mock up with a plug, plug wire, and header you'll have your answer
