At any rate, get the kick down rod put on the tranny. If you are on the freeway, you won't need it though. The kickdown was invented for those two lane roads where you only have a short distance to pass the slow dude in front of you. It takes the C4 from 3rd to 2nd so you get more torque and rpms for more horses. On my 03 Mach, going from 5th to 4th is the same thing. Ol' Yeller has to stay in 3rd though, so I don't do a lot of passing in tight spots.

Did the c6's have a kickdown? My 71 has a c6 in it but the kickdown rod is missing. I used to have a 69LTD and it was a bent rod going to the tranny but there is none on my 71. Can you get one from a parts catalogue? I've not seen any and the closest junk yard with older fords is over an hour away.

Yeah, the early 70's cobra jet mustangs used the C6, and it had an unusual kick down rod. See what I mean?

Well I have a question about that kick down rod too..

Is it normal for the throdle and the kickdown to move together about half way from touching the kickdown adjustment screw..

In other words,, when I pull the throdle back the kickdown actuates about hlaf way from hitting the screw,, is it supposed to hit the screw to kickdown? I have been wondering about this..
