gauges
Want to do an aftermarket gauge pod. Maybe temp gauge and oil.How hard is it to install? I have never install gauges before and have no clue where to begin. Also would like to get a tach hooked up, not a monster tach, but at least something. Thanks. Also if anyone has pics ofplaces they have installed gauges, that would help too, just wondering how they look in differant areas.
the options are endless! you can get classic styles or modern styles. you can buy various mounting brackets or pods. Probably the easiest is a simple bracket, 2 gauge version under the dash above the shifter.
probably the easiest is electrical temp guage which will usually run straight off your temp sender on the block - the wire goes to your temp light now.
Oil pressure - mechanical is more accurate, but more involved install. Again, you probably have an electric sender on the side of the block already going to the oil light in your dash. You may have to install a different sender, but that is real easy.
guages will all come with instructions. the hardest part is running the wires so they are neat and tidy and protected from snagging on anything else. In other words, its pretty easy. I hate autoelec and i can manage it!.
in terms of tach, you can get the shelby style pods to mount on top of the dash (from any Mustang vendor) or you can get ones that you use a hose clamp or similar to mount them on the steering column, whioh works well on a 66, but is going to obscure part of your speedo ona 65. Personally, I am over those big Autometer tachs and if the rest of your car is relatively stock, its a bit of a "ricer" addition
good luck

Have you considered swapping from the 65 dash over to a 66 style?

i thought about the rally pac, but not a big fan of it. May just put tach there.thought about changing to a 66, but want to keep original 65. Trying to keep car somewhat original. Still would like to see some other options. I want something that looks nice, and don't want to hack up the dash. Was thinking around the ashtray somewhere, but thats kinda low, but hard to tell without really installing it there.any pics would be a help.
It comes with the gauge. I used a hose clamp to secure it.
