You can get a set of AFR 165's from Jeg's for $1,400(approx) for the pair assembled brand new, cnc'd, undercut stainless valves, with dual spring and damper, and either stud or pedestal mount, and they're very streetable and capable of making monster power, plus they're aluminum which will give you a bit of a detonation safety margin over iron, and you'll be shaving about 50lbs off the front of the car

The combustion chamber of 289 heads were 54.5 CC from 63 to 67. In 1968, the volumn was 63 CC for C8OE-6090-D, L and M heads. High performance heads were 54.5 CC for 64 to 67 heads, except for 63 where the volumn was 49.2 CC. For 302 heads, the story is as complicated.

Well, my information tells me the stock 2 barrell heads were 64, the 4 barrell heads were 57 and the hi-po were 54. My 2 barrell heads have been milled .020 and I run flat top pistons. If what you say is true I'd have about an 13.9-1 static compression ration and would need to run 93 octane gas...but with a mechanical distributor and 12 initial with 38 total at 2000 rpm I can run 87 octane with no pre-ignition. Plus whlen I built the motor the 1st time we cc'c the heads befor milling and thay checked at a 63-65 cc spread.
And they are the original heads.

Ford did not have different heads for factory equipped 289 2V and 4V (non-HiPo)applications.

all 289 had same chamber size the only difference between the hipo head and the reg head was that the hipo had a machined spring seat and thats it valves were the same the ports were the same the chamber volume was the same the reason that there were variations in volume was because machining tolerances weren't as strict as they are today in the mass prodution engines

A "C" code 289 has 9.3:1 compression ratio, and the 4 barrel "A" code 289 has 10.0:1. If the heads are not different, where does the A code get the extra compression from?
