Tweaking an IL 6?
I have been reading about some guys who have messed around wtihthe 200 6 banger with some success. Anybody on this board ever do that? If so, what's the best route to follow? Split headers, cam, electronic ignition, intake and carb? Irecently acquired a pretty sweet '65 IL 6 w/4 speed and am curious and undecided. At this point, all I want to do is investigate some different options.ALL feedback will be considered and appreciated!Crash
i have a built up 200 and youre on the right path with those ideas except for the intake part cause the intake is an integral part of the head so you cant change the intake with out major machinework and fabrication but if you want serious power go turbo
and also check out www.fordsix.com these guys have helped me alot

I saw one one time with 3 1 barrell flanges and progressive linkage. Looked cool as hell.
3 Aces as it were...
be careful though, costs more to mod those. A friend way over did his, and just could never get it to settle. Custom cam, header, different carbs and such....etc. But that was 15 years ago or so.
Good little motor but can certainly stand some better performance.

I also recommend you pick up this book. It has a lot of great info on modding any Ford I6.
I'm looking at getting one of these and was referred to www.fordsix.com also. There's a lot of folks with extensive knowledge there. A very important point to note though is that one of the board members over there developed a very nice aluminum head to help with the poor flow design of the older head. This head does not have the intake manifold built onto it so you can change it, and he is developing those also. Should be able to make those nice performers. It'll be set up for various types of induction from 2 barrel carbs to 4 barrel carbs to fuel injection, which is my ultimate goal. Hope that helps! Definately check it out.
