Default Carb Tuning

Does anyone have a good article or can anyone tell me how to tune a carb? I have never worked on a carb before and know nothing about them. I tried searching google, but I could not find anything that would really enable me to go and do it.

On a side note, what other things on the car (its a 4bbl 289) should i tune up? fuel filter, spark plugs etc.

http://www.aedperformance.com/Tuning%20Tips.htm Pertronix Ignition and Ignition Coil is a nice cheap upgrade from the old points and condensor.

A good start for someone with limited experience but a lot of enthusiasm, try one of these books about Mustangs - by Haynes, by Clymer or by Chilton's. At a book store, auto parts stores or the net.

I love it. Here's someone who wants to know what, where and how to adjust his car and the other responses have been to modify the distributor and to do it by ear. Please, read the original request - again. And I do have a Pertronix and do tune by ear (and eye, I use an analyzer with a tach).

He started with a request about the carb, but then opened the door to tuning in general, so I think most of the posts are on point, but agree that some are too general to help a novice.

It would really help if MrMainEvent let us know what carb he wants to tune. Quite a difference between a Holley and Motorcraft. Even within brands there are differences with the models. Would also be helpful to know about the engine....

Yeah, not all carburetors are built the same way. Here is an article about how to tune a Motorcraft carb assuming you have the original carb in your car.

If that carb is the original, it is a Motorcraft 4100. Kits are cheap, and it's really not rocket science.
