In that picture you can see a side marker towards the back of the car. Interesting, becuase side markers didnt come till 68. Odd placement too, I would have put it wayyy lower than that.

I dont think that radio antennea (if thats what it is) is original either. That thing has atleast alittle work done to it. What country are u in?

Hi all,
First of all, thanks for all your answers.
I live in Portugal, near Lisbon, the capital of the country, it's about 150 miles from Algarve. Algarve it's in the South, Lisbon in the Center.
About the car, in fact from pictures of other cars in the net that marker is a little out of place, it should be lower and also a little more towards the back, right? And the antenna was originally on the front, and on the other side of the car, right?
Can you give me your opinions about the 6 cylinder engine, is it reliable, any particular problem, with only 120hp what about performance?
Although this car has a lot of work to do, to put it like it deserves, a Mustang it's so difficult to find here, and the ones that appear have crazy prices, that I'm really tempted!
Please give your opinions about the 6 cylinders engine.

Thanks again.

Best regards

The single exhaust pipe does NOT indicate 6 cylinder. My 289 2V has single exhaust.

The emblem on the side of the car (the pony with red white and blue stripe) DOES indicate 6 cylinder. It would have 289 or 390 on top of the emblemif it were a V8.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer.
I think the only way to really know it's to open the hood or hear it "singing"!
It's possible that it's a V8 and the original emblem after 40 years as fallen or as been stollen, and replaced by this "normal" one! If you look closely at the left of the emblem you can see the holes were is suposed to be written Mustang. On the other side is exactly the same. They were probably stollen!
I see a lot of pictures in the net of V8's with this "normal" emblems!
This car also has rear sidemarkers thatare out of correct place and that only appear in 68 cars, and a radio antenna that is also out of place, it's in the rear left side!
Of course this is me whishing this is what happen and it's in fact a V8. That will make it a lot more interesting!

Thanks
Best regards

PS: In this thread there is a sugestion to open the hood and be certain of what it is! You can be sure that if I could that would be the first thing i'll do. But here in Portugal if you do that or for example try to remove a wheel cover to see how many lug nuts, if someone see you, immediatly calls the police and tell them someone is triyng to steal the car. It's better to wait and ask the owner! Don't know when but....

If I were you I wouldnt buy a mustang with an I6, stock they dont make enough power to get out of their own way, and highway speeds would probably not be very fun.

Lay on the ground and look up on the engine. The v8 would have a set of headers, where the I6 would only have one, right?

Hi all,
Well, just to finish the story, the car is in fact a 6 cylinder car. The original and only owner died in 1995 leaving the car to he's two sons. The car was regularly driven for the next two years until it failed a mandatory inspection, in 1997, with steering and hand brake problems.
Those problems haven't been fixed and, of course, the carhasn't be driven on the road for the last 10 years! They just drive it once or twice a month inside the garage....
To finish the story, they won't sell the car for any price, because one of the last wishes of their father was to never sell the car!
Without trying to judge people's action's, I thing that the father would prefer that they sell the car to someone who takes care of it, then keep it like this and let it rotten! But this is just my opinion....

Thanks to all that gave their opiniosn.

Best regards

thats kinda dumb why have a car you cant drive but dont feel bad where i live theres a few older cars sitting in peoples yards or driveways they wont sell them and you can tell they havent moved in years. i know where a yenko nova is the owner wont sell it and its stuck in the mudd axle deep. the car is worth more then his house but he lets it just rust away
