Default Torque converter for AOD swap

I'm assembling the components for an AOD swap. I was wondering if I should use the factory torque converter from the 89-93 AOD trans or should I go for a 12 inch that has a stall at around 2200 rpm? If I make the switch to the 12" converter, do I have to make any improvements to the stock transmission? I currently am running the factory FMX with 3:00 open rear gearing. I just cruise the night time streets with my Mach 1 so using a beefed up tranny that can chew up asphalt is not a concern. Also, can the factory AOD support both locking and non locking converters? Thanks.

Default RE: Torque converter for AOD swap

Buy a decent locking converter. I would suggest something in the upper 2600-2800 rpm because of the wait of the car. Personally I started with a 9" 3200 locking stall and 4:11 and would drive the car all over the place, no problems with heating the trans...

i think the stock aod will work with both locking and none converters im using a aod but its been built up with a transbrake and manual valve body. the cheapest insurane for any auto trans is a good trans cooler
