Default Please help me with my intake question

I have a 1966 mustang with a 351w in it, It has the stock 2bbl intake on it, I am in the process of putting on a edelbrock performer intake, However I am unable to get the stock intake off, I have unhooked everything, losened and removed all bolts, it will not budge, Is there a trick to getting these off? Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks all who reply

Yes there is...you have to carefully pry it off to get it started. Use as thin a blade scraper or screwdriver and a small hammer at the front of the head. Once you break years of stiction, the rest will pry loose easier. Try not to knick the head, but don't worry about the old intake so much and good luck.

Yeah, if the four corners were put on right, there will be RTV on each of the four corners. Like 69Mach said, use a thin tool like a screwdriver to break those corners loose and the rest of the intake should just pop off.. Let us know the results.

stiction
great word!

yeah, definately pry between the bottom of the intake and the top of the block, in the front. just beat the crap outta it. once it breaks loose it'll come right off

I prefer deadblow hammers. It's a plastic type hammer that has the head filled with sand to carry through and provide a "dead" impact. They transmit force very well, and are soft so they don't damage things. A few good whacks with that and most manifolds will pop right off. I've found deadblow hammers to be one of the more invaluable tools for automotive work
