Default fast idle adjusting screw

i'm trying to figure out how tightly the fast idle adjusting screw should be against the v of the cam. i'm trying to set up my choke correctly but the v keeps moving from the screw when i do the adjustments. also confused about the choke plate pulldown, what is the point of putting this wire bent 1/8 from the end into the cylinder housing, my directions on this step aren't very good. thanks for the help

What carb are you using? On my Holley, the fast idle screw should be just enough to keep the engine running with the choke on, but if it's set too high, it might keep the throttle plates from closing all the way down to idle when the choke is off(has to do with the way the cam linkage is)
