Default Pertronix install, one more time

About ready to install a Pertronix 1 on my 289 2v. I spliced into the green/red wire at the ignition switch and was ready to go. My coil says 12 volt external resistor. Can I just hook up as Pertronix states, red to pos and black to neg? I read somewhere that I need to get 12 volts out of the switch, because orginal Ford coils were 6 volt. Help, I would love to drive this weekend. Thanks

Straight from the pertronix install manual, connect the red wire to a 12 v source. I know there are other opinions, but in this case I would do what the manufacture says must be done.

Hook it up as the pertronix installaton directions say to hook it up. Once you get the engine running, get the 12 volt source fom the ignition switch.
